As our new Cloud Architect, you’ll be the go-to person for all things cloud-related. Your mission? To make our solutions accessible to a wider audience by deploying them in the public cloud. You’ll work closely with researchers, discussing their needs and proactively shaping the direction of our cloud services. Furthermore, you’ll be able to tap the potential of supercomputers to make state-of the-art solutions.
As a research institute we have access to the national e-infrastructure of supercomputers. In this role we need you to help the researchers in utilizing the potential of these resources.
The role is central in NGI and you will interact with most digital activities in the organization. Together with our cloud engineer, you will be part of, and a key person to participate in shaping, a newly established and ambitious Digital Services department that is driving the digital transformation at NGI. You will also interact closely with the platform team at NGI Digital; our innovation- and development hub that is set out to digitalize the geo-industry.
Responsibilities:
- Be the owner of our cloud solutions and the overall architecture
- Contribute to optimizing of cloud spending and standardization to ensure cost-effective, secure and compliant adoption
- Contribute to accelerate cloud adoption in the organisation by identifying and providing guidance and best practices
- Facilitate when researchers need to utilize supercomputer resources from the national e-infrastructure (Sigma 2)
- Participate in purchase and integration processes of SaaS and COTS solutions
Skills:
- Azure (preferable), Amazon or Google Cloud
- Infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform)
- CI/CD solutions for automating build/test/deploy
- Network engineering
- DNS and certificate management
- Cloud Architecture
It’s an advantage if you are familiar with:
- Kubernetes
- Python
Experience:
- 5-10 years from larger project driven organizations within offshore, seismic, energy or similar
- Background as cloud architect or cloud engineer
- You could also be a backend engineer with cloud experience or come from an academic / research background
- Master’s degree in computer science, Informatics, Cyber Security or similar

Role could be based in our offices in Oslo or Trondheim – If you’ll be based in Trondheim, expect bi-weekly day-travel to Oslo. Some international travel can occur.
